It isn't an 'either/or' proposition. As with Android, the Qi charging supplements the plug in. I can use Qi or USB to charge, but Qi is easier.

Nor did I explicitly state so. Apple is about simplicity. There is nothing simple about having 2 ways to charge, one being extremely inefficient and wasteful and the other not. For better or worse, that is probably how Apple thought of this. Also, wireless charging is not mature yet. Apple is rarely the first to jump on a bandwagon of new technology solely because it's new and cool.

I had far more issues with the old connector because I always tried plugging it in flipped over, which obviously doesn't work. I have that same problem with USB connectors.

Honestly, I think this is one of the two main reasons Apple decided to go with Space Gray rather than Slate (of course the other being the visible scuffs)

Because when ever i try to plug in my slate iPad mini 1st Gen, or whenever I tried to plug in my old Slate iPhone 5, it was so hard to find out where to plug it in, even in good lighting! Ever since I've had my gold iPhone 5s or used my dad's new space gray 6, the lighting port has been so much easier to find in low light situations.

Wireless charging is not nearly as wasteful as you think it is. It is surprisingly quick. It is coming to Apple in one form or another, just don't know when.

I usually charge my iPhone 6 in the middle of the night with the lights out. I have no issues connecting it in the dark.
