PROBLEM?

Seriously though, it's been advertised that the new Retina MacBook Pro has one of the best speakers in any laptop.

Could any rMBP users please say a few words about the speakers? I haven't read many reviews/comments about the rMBP speakers at all.

Thanks! :)

Honestly don't know.

However I wish I had clicked on the thread I wanted, thank you Forum Spy!

The speakers are great (Im coming from an Alienware M11x). I don't even use them on full volume because they're even too loud for me haha.

Seriously? I play a lot of classical music, and on my 2008 unibody at higher volumes I get resonance.

Has that been eliminated with the rMBP?

They're the best that ive heard on any laptop.
One of my main reasons for choosing rmbp over mba.

And where did beats audio came in? :p

They honestly stopped me from buying one of the bigger jambox units. I have the small one and while the bass is better on it, the volume and clarity is pretty close. We have a cottage and sit outside at night listening to music a lot and this will be a great way to do it now without needing bluetooth and another device.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this on a mac for ages, do you have a tutorial anywhere?

Beats is over hyped...
The rMBP spreakers sound Great, and were one of the reasons I upgraded.
I also use the Bongiovi digital power station add-on for an "SRS" effect..:D

I wish the Retina MacBook Pro had an audio input port!!!

I think it's horrible that it doesn't have this...

I do a lot of audio recording (on my iMac and Mac Pro) and would like to be able to connect a mixer or a sound-in device to record line level audio input, record audio sets, mic-in, etc...but CANNOT because there is no audio-input port!! There is only a headphone jack! Ack Apple!

Ill find it in a sec... but looking I found this as well, but is $20 but may work easier

I cant find the exact instructions right now but it is pretty easy...
you need AU LAB (bundled with Xcode and you need a free DEV AppleID)

Soundflower

And 2 separate copies of LineIn (just duplicate a downloaded copy)

After soundflower is installed, go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and set it to Soundflower (2ch)

Then open 1 copy of line in and select the input at Soundflower (2ch) and the Output at Soundflower (16ch). Hit advanced and make sure the channels are 1-2, 1-2

Open AU Lab (Developer > Applications > Audio), and hit next, and on the next window hit add input, then next. Set it to Soundflower (16ch), and MAKE SURE the outputs are on channels 3-4 (just drag the slider)

It will then give you a window, and on output 1, you can set it to graphic EQ.

Open the other copy of LineIn, set the input to Soundflower (16ch) output to system output/headphones/speakers (you might have to fiddle around there). Hit advanced and make sure the channels are 3-4, 1-2.

All sound is then EQd.

It takes a bit of work but its great :)

it does, the headphoen jack is also an audio in

I am wanting to connect a standard minijack line-level audio-input from another computer running an audio app, to record....or from a DJ mixer's line-audio out, using a minijack. NOT an iPhone microphone...but a standard minijack. Mac Pros and iMacs have this standard audio input port, and PowerBooks had them for many years.

Is that audio line level in or iPhone mic in?

It supports "iPhone mic + remote" input though 4-contact jack when in "Sound Output" mode, and it can be also switched to a regular 3-contact stereo input. But then you can't use headphones anymore.

That's the case with all other laptops with combined 3.5mm though...

P.S. This screenshot is from my 13MBP, and it looks like rMBP doesn't have this functionality! My apologies for giving incorrect information. I'll check rMBP tomorrow.

I got in here with my audiophile armor on, ready to take action...

But in all honesty, I've come to accept that no matter how good the laptop speakers are, they will never beat actual speakers. So for me, any laptop speaker that isn't horrendously bad suits me just fine, especially since I use headphones/speakers 90% of the time anyway.

How did you get that to show up? In my sound settings I have the exact same menu without the "use audio port for" option. I'm running a RMBP

I don't have rMBP right here today, but I was sure its possible like on 13" MBP! (This screenshot is from 13MBP)

UPDATE:

No input, bummer.

Yeah, I did some research and came to the same conclusion. I'm surprised they didn't include it. I guess I'll have to buy an audio interface to hook up my guitar effects processor :(
