it does, the headphoen jack is also an audio in
On the 13" MBP's, the 3.5mm jack is a combined audio in+out port.

On the MBPR, it's a standard 3.5mm audio analog/digital (optical) out port. External recording devices have to go through USB, or Firewire via adapters...

PROBLEM?

Seriously though, it's been advertised that the new Retina MacBook Pro has one of the best speakers in any laptop.

Could any rMBP users please say a few words about the speakers? I haven't read many reviews/comments about the rMBP speakers at all.

Thanks! :)

Beats Audi AKA Monster is under contract with other CPU companies, so even if Apple wanted them (which they don’t) it could not happen.

I was all ready to dive in here and be sarcastic at you, OP.
You could even say my post was lined up to be sarcasmic.
Slightly disappointed the title was a joke.

Entirely subjective opinion coming up:

Sound is not as loud as the speakers in my M11x-r2 or M14x-r1.

Audio quality is comparable to the generic M11x speakers, but not as clear as the Klipsch speakers in my M14x.

Not as muddy as the sound from my friend's Beats-enabled HP Envy 14, and about as loud.

Sound from an Asus Bang and Olufsen powered laptop is both louder and fuller. Can't remember which model though, it wasn't one of those light and thin ones though.

They are not necessarily louder, but clearer they are. They sound very clean, definitely and update to the older Macbook Pros.
