Hello guys,

I got a Macbook Pro 15'' 2018 & it is my first Macbook, as the titles say, is it like this for everyone or mine is so hard to pull?

Am asking because I'm just worrying that I may break the port or damage the cable.

Isn't loose connectors on the 2016-2017 models an issue and people have been doing repairs because of that? Loose connectors eventually leads to bad contacts, so I assume somewhat tighter connections are better?

That said, I've always found small and dense (number of electrical connections) connectors tight. Thunderbolt compared to HDMI or USB 3.0 was like that on every one of my laptops. I don't think dense connectors can be reasonably physically treated the same way as a simpler connector.

Ive used 3 different 2018 MBPs over the last few weeks. All have them have been somewhat hard to remove.

Before I ordered my 2018 MBPro I was concerned about the USB loose connector issue, when I received my MBP I discovered what you are experiencing that they are difficult to remove which is probably better than being loose, I think that being small with very little gripping surface gives the perception of being hard to remove

The 2018 models are definitely much stiffer. I upgraded from the 2016. Personally I prefer the older "loose" connections but didn't realize it was an issue for some people.

Thank you guys for replies. I see that it was just normal.

I'm on the same boat. My previous laptop was loose. But now I can't stop feeling like am gonna break something everytime I want to remove the charger. I guess by time I will get used to the stiffness.

A number of people were having issues w/ loose usb-c ports in their 2016 and 2017 resulting in repairs. I believe apple took that into consideration and made the 2018 ports a little stiffer to address this complaint.

The other info you might be interested in is the 2018 hinges are a little stiffer as well compared to the 2016 models. I've seen people say this.

2018 13 here. Yup very stiff and takes a careful effort to remove while trying to not wear down the cable. I prefer that over a loose connection.

I'm spoiled by the Magsafe connectors of old. My wife has a MacBook and every time I have to pull the connector out, it feels like a bit of a chore. It's not effortless by any means.

2017 MBP here. Too loose. I miss magsafe. Too loose - a lot of 3rd party connectors require re-connecting and if I move a cable while it's plugged in, it will disconnect cuz of how loose it is. Not a fan of USB C.

If ur fingers are at ALL slippery good luck. Try using fabric to wipe the chord were u r trying to grab and also wiping your fingers. also try closing the laptop to get a better grip/angle.

Be glad that your ports are "snug" rather than being loose (and perhaps not connecting properly).

Just be careful to grab it firmly and pull it straight out when you disconnect from the port...
