Wish you went for 16GB of RAM instead of 8GB?

No regrets going with 8 GB since I didn't really have issues with my previous 6 GB RAM. Although if it was extra $100 for 16 GB w/o upgrading the storage I may have opted for it :)

Not really. Slickdeals posters lambast $300 laptops for not having 16GB RAM. 🤦🏻‍♀️

With that said, 8GB is already a big improvement over the 4GB RAM you'll find on most 2015-2018 iPPs. If one doesn't need the extra storage, I think one is better off saving the funds for a future upgrade.

If you look at the comparison vids it looks like there's a a very narrow circumstance where you might need the 16 GB. Even when stuff reloads it tends to reload in less than 4 seconds.

M1 and the fast storage compensates the lack of additional RAM with lighting fast reload, no regrets.
With 16GB you'll get more wowsers for sure, I bet there would be little to no reloads.

Absolutely not. It’s on par with the stock configurations of all the M1 Macs. If it’s enough for a full fledged desktop OS then I would say it’s more than adequate for an iPad.

There is zero difference in performance in teh 16GB model and 8GB model. Its a classic up-sell by Apple to try and get people to purchase the higher priced iPad (and I’m sure it probably worked).

I do not.
  1. It is double the RAM of my 2017 iPad Pro and I really didn’t have complaints about its performance.
  2. 8GB is the standard RAM configuration on macOS. I think 8GB is the suite spot for most use cases and the 8GB M1 Mac reviews showed that 8GB was more capable than people thought. If macOS can run fine on 8GB, iPadOS will be fine.
That’s not to say that as iPadOS developers there won’t be SOME users with creative or intensive workflows that benefit from 16GB once Apple removes the RAM limitations, but I just think this forum way oversells the important of RAM. I’d venture that at least 95% of iPad users will be perfectly fine.

Plus, lets not forget that the bulk of iPads out there (and being sold) have 4GB or less RAM and even the old Pros only had 6GB so developers aren’t going to be directly targeting the current generation - again, aside from niche high-end creative apps.

Not really since macOS does swap, but I agree that 8 is enough for 99% of population.

I doubt anyone will regret anything. It might be that 3-6 years down the line where the 8GB devices won’t feel quite as quick as the 16GB, but many M1 8GB users will have upgraded onto a future device by then anyhow.

See the poll for the question.
I certainly like the 16GB of RAM on my iPad, which will quite possibly pay more and more dividends down the line. But frankly, I didn't upgrade to the higher tier for RAM - I did it because I wanted the storage! The doubling of RAM was just a bonus.

Nope. I was a-okay with the 4GB and 6GB of previous models, so 8GB is plenty enough for me. I have no use for 16GB.

I waited until after the dev conference before picking one up. I saw nothing that warranted getting the 16 GB model and am content with my 8 GB / 256 GB 12.9.

I can't see why anyone would be. There isn't any significant advantage currently to 16GB of RAM. That may change in the useful life of the M1 iPad Pro, but that may never change. Obviously, certain niche cases may find it useful, but like having 64GB of RAM in my desktop. It is useful for me and my use cases on it (primarily VMs), but for the average user they wouldn't notice an improvement over 8GB of RAM on that same desktop machine.

Not really a bonus. You paid for it one or another.
