Hey Guys got one just now from apple retail store in NJ. I must say Ipad pro is incomplete without apple smart keyboard. Now i see why apple released this device. Without Apple keyboard i was little skeptical about ipad pro and was very confused not anymore. People who has it without apple smart keyboard and who are not happy don't return it. I thought with Apple keyboard it will be heavy but i lift it gives fanatstic feeling. Not so heavy you can rest the keyboard on your lap and comfortably because there is no tracking so the distance between you and the tablet is less there no need for track pad.

How i got it:
Today i called in the afternoon to my local apple store but the phone was redirected to apple warehouse or customer service where they can check the inventory. Rep told me they have lot in stock i told them will they have by evening because i can go there in evening and rep said yes. Before going to store in evening i called again same process as above the rep told they don't have any in stock but then she transferred me to applecare where another rep who called my local apple store where she said few available there. I went there fast asked about the keyboard specialist directed to get the keyboard near the cases section and all i saw was logitech keyboard plus the other apple covers and cases from apple but not the Apple smart keyboard. So i went to the person by the door who sent me there and she said don't have apple ones but only logitech ones. I told her the whole story about my call. She told me to wait someone will help me. Then the specialist came and i asked about it and he checked his iDevice and he said he did not saw any and then i told the whole call story to him as well :) Then he went back to see whether they small quantity in the back. I was waiting for him to come desparetly playing with the ipp which today they dedicated table for it yesterday there were only 4-5 units and today 8 more units with dedicated table just like ipad, Mac etc...So now he came back kind of running to give me good news that there is only 1 unit left it was in his hand. He showed it to me and i got so happy and relieved that i got it. That rep also got so happy for me like he got it for himself. All the phone call to final specialist this was best customer service i got. What a company, what a people and what a device. I like typing on it so intentionallyi wrote that long and also to tell people that you can get it using above procedure talk to AppleCare and asked them to call your local store to find out inventory not just on their systems because it will show not available. Guys don't return the ipp without using it with Apple smart keyboard. I will post pictures soon.

edit: added couple more pictures.

Great that is awesome!! I am really interested is if you can use like a with a smart cover it in a propped up mode if you wanted to use the digital keyboard instead. I have seen it in the watch mode though I have et to see any pictures of it propped up in a way you could type on the digital keybaord. Does this work? Thanks!

Is it true with the smart keyboard you can't have the iPad propped up like with the smart covers and use the digital keyboard? I am hearing this around the internet — though by the looks of the last photo I don't see why you couldn't?

How do you mean? Like my third picture?

No. Basically wants to see it lying flat but tilted up at a small angle. So hold your fingers on the top of the iPad that's in your pic, push it back to lay it flat at a downward angle. Then turn it towards you. Hard to describe so hope that makes sense.

Gotcha, I don't think it will work as the weight of the keyboard makes it so it won't hold in that orientation.

i tried but i am unable to prop like the way you asked. Its different mechanism than the smart cover. You can consider the smart case and cover for ipp from apple. They are in stock in stores and they would prop and you can use the digital keyboard.

Will regular (tablet/iOS) bluetooth keyboards have the same functionality as the Apple Pro keyboard?

I assume it would be okay to use my Apple bluetooth KB with the IPP and just get a decent case/stand? Anybody thinking of doing the same thing?

Yes, In fact I was a bit shocked at the lack of dedicated iOS functions in the smart keyboard. The Logitech keyboards have dedicated iOS buttons, but the smart keyboard is just a Mac keyboard in cover form. I'm only holding out for smart keyboard because it has a wonderful typing experience, as the Logitech ones are a bit to flat for my taste.

I finally was able to get my hands on one..I was one of those that was able to order for personal pickup on wednesday morning when the ipad pro was released, and when I went to the store they told me there were none. They took my name down, and promised when they got some they would call me..today i said screw it and let me just get a regular smart cover while I'm waiting, and my local store just got some new ones in. When I went to go pick it up, I asked them about my original keyboard order, and the rep went to the back, and brought one back with my name on it! They just never called me to tell me it came in.

It's pretty awsome so far. Still no pencils though. It's crazy how my local store still hasn't gotten a single pencil for sale yet..just 4 demo units..

For now anyways, I'm just using the Logitech BT keyboard I bought for my Ipad 4 back when and I have the IPP resting in landscape on an Anker stand I bought some time ago for other tablets I have.

I can get away with this for now. Eventually I might just get the smart cover and use it as the stand and protection for the IPP when I'm not using it. Cheaper than getting the smart keyboard obviously and I can just continue using the Logitech to type.
