I really wanna buy this game but, the demo doesn't have a "vsync" feature and without that feature, I'm not sure if I'd really want to spend the money on the full game. I hate hate hate hate hate video horizontal tearing and I really hope that vsync is in the real game but, I can't find any information on the full game's features. Any help here guys?

I doubt the full game offers settings the demo doesn't, but if so, be sure to also test that the setting [i[works[/i].

I've seen a lot of games on Mac with a checkbox for Vsync, but I've never actually seen the option do anything when enabled. It's like a dummy checkbox in a lot of idTech 4 games for instance. I don't know if that's a driver issue or what, but it's something to be aware of.

I have the game and it doesn't have the VSync feature.

However, I am not experiencing horizontal tearing at all. They may have implemented it not as an option, but as a standard feature, not worth mentioning.

If you have any way of playing on a PC then do. It's very cheap on Steam (think my girlfriend paid £10 for it) and runs incredible in Windows.

That said I'm playing it on my PSP and it still looks bloody beautiful.

Even if you're stuck on Mac then try to look past the tearing. It's a really great game.

FWIW I find that one solution to tearing is to boost the detail/quality/resolution of a game. Tearing occurs when a game is running just TOO many frames per second. Vsync slows the fps down, but you can do that with the quality settings too. It's not as precise a solution (there may be times when you still see tearing, and other times when the game is a bit slower than ideal) but it does make things look nice :) You might find a balance of settings that's slow enough to hide tearing, but still looks fast and smooth.

I have not tried TRA however.

If you play it in bootcamp, you can force vsync on by using the Nvidia Control Panel.

Update: Today I went ahead and bought Tomb Raider Anniversary and there is no vsync option and it doesn't matter if I have it on my 7300 GT or my 8800 GT, there is still tearing issues. I turned up all the graphics and I guess my card is just too powerful because my frame rates are really smooth but, I hate the tearing. Is there anything I can do about this?

You're out of luck I suspect.

Maybe investigate to see whether manual (text-editor) config options exist to boost the quality higher. Like FSAA maybe, if that's not a GUI option, or trying resolution dimensions other than the ones listed in-game.

I just emailed my problem to both Edios and Robosoft and I'm going to see if they can help me out or release a game patch to fix the issue. I don't think Edios is going to do anything about it because they didn't work on the Mac version... instead Robosoft ported the PC version to the Mac, so I think Robosoft has to fix the problem.

Edit: I have now emailed Feral Interactive now (the company that "published" the game to the Mac)

So we've got 3 companies on this now:
    Edios (Creator of the game)
Robosoft (Ports it over to the Mac)
Feral Interactive (Publishes it to the Mac)

I'm not really sure who's to blame on this one... it could even be Apple's video drivers. (However, vsync works in almost every other game that offers it... even Medal of Honor has a hidden cmd-line setting to enable vsync and it works)

Does the Windows version have vsync?

It's good to hear that some games do have vsync working on Mac. I have never noticed it working, but maybe it's not a driver issue at least, if some games/engines can make it work. (I have an nVidia 7600 GT 256.)

^ The PC version does have v-sync, not 100% sure though.
The only Mac game I really played was Halo 1 and that also had a v-sync option so it's likely an omission from the team who ported TRA.

I play TRA on my MacBook Pro and it looks flawless. I am playing the windows version in Bootcamp. No tearing at all, and no slow downs. I play Tomb Raider Legend in Bootcamp even with the Next Gen graphics on and it is perfect as well. I tried the Mac demo and it looked just as good as the windows version.

The Games that I own that vsync works perfect on:
    Call of Duty 2
Medal of Honor (All of Them)
    Star Wars: Jedi Academy
Guitar Hero III (Enabled by Default)
    Call of Duty 1

Games that have vsync but it doesn't work:
Tomb Raider Anniversary (vsync is a hidden option, but does nothing)

Games that don't have a vsync option at all
    Max Payne
    Alice
