Does anyone know how to customise the touchbar in Word for Mac 2021?

I'd really like to use the touchbar for something other than function keys, but haven't been able to find an answer as to how to enable this functionality which is present in Onenote and Outlook for Mac 2021. Does anyone know how to enable it?

Touch Bar support for Word isn't something you need to switch on, it should just work. I've got an Office 365 licence and Word works with the Touch Bar.
