I don’t know which intel you had but my 2015 gets hot enough to fry eggs, and everytime I launch zoom it sounds like I live next to the airport.

The humble 1.8 GHz MBA 2017. Never used Zoom. Teams was fine on it. Fortunately for me, I can have some say in what apps and software I use.

I dunno, I kinda miss the Intel Macbooks keeping my lap warm.

I live in a kinda cold area especially during winter

Anyone else lol?

Not really. I'm spending the winter in The Alps where I'm already wearing either jeans, long johns, or snowboard pants, so an ice cold M1 Air is a moot point. Then again, I mostly use at the dining room table or in my bed with a thick duvet between me and it.

However, I actually use it as a mini cooling slab in the summer on my bare legs :) Just think, the energy that was being wasted on heat is now being channelled towards performance and battery life.

During the winter my MBA is not cold but freezing to touch.

Was just about to add this.

I have to wonder, how cold can you go with an M1 Air? Yes, I have Googled, a bit. I believe the min operating ambient temp for an Intel Mac is +10˚C / 50˚F.

I don’t have Apple Silicon yet, but my switch from a Windows Intel laptop to a Samsung Android tablet also allows me to enjoy many things like watching Netflix and YouTube without anything heating up or noisy fans running.

Waiting for the 2022 MacBook.

Currently warming myself with a 2013 MBP, until I can afford an upgrade. The battery finally hit max cycles last week.

I always knew when some web site was hogging all the CPU resources on my '14 Intel MBP when the fans kicked into full speed. With my '20 M1 MBP I'm kinda in the dark now.

If you want a toasty warm laptop, download Cinebench and set it to 30 minutes run time.

I'll keep my TOASTY warm 16" i9 MacBook Pro...
WHY?
M1 Macs are totally NON upgradable
M1 Macs cant run Windows 10 or 11.
Monterey is a buggy and memory leak MESS

If you cant Go back to a MORE reliable OS like BIG SUR or Catalina or EVEN BOOT Windows your screwed
A $4000 paper weight.

So Lets wait and see how awesome and reliable macOS gets in the future??

They May even prevent you from installing any APPS that were not purchased thru the APP STORE like an iPad in future macOS.

So YEAH. I'll hold on to my TOASTY INTEL MacBook PRO. I like Choices. Not forced into something.

Not missing at all. Living in the tropics you tend to appreciate cool devices.

<3 M1

The lack of warmth is offset by the lack of thought around how utterly incapable this machine was at even performing the easiest of tasks without becoming the heating equivalent to a small nuclear power reactor.

What's upgradeable about your 16"? Why would you buy a Mac to run windows?

Well, I like choices too, glad you made the right one for you.

Although this sucks, a lot of Windows laptops these days have non-upgradable components as well.

M1 Macs cant run Windows 10 or 11.
It can run both Windows 10 and 11 ARM edition via Parallels Desktop. And it runs them quite fast.

Monterey is a buggy and memory leak MESS
For some people, yes. For many others, no. I've not had a single issue with Monterey since I've installed it.

2020 M1 Macs can only downgrade to Big Sur. They can't even run Catalina. And you can downgrade just fine if you have an external USB. And if you have a situation where you need to DFU the Mac, you can get that version of macOS from https://ipsw.me/product/Mac

It's been awesome and reliable since the day I upgraded from Mac OS 9 a million years ago.

No, they won't.

I miss being able to cook breakfast on my MacBook while browsing the news online in the morning, it was so convenient ?

we had to endure some dark years. those crazy rediculous butterly keyboards. dark days indeed. seems the pandemic increased sales and interest in nailing these new macs. apple is able to apply all that engineering knowledge to finally push the mac to a totally new level.

Yeah, I do miss my hand warmers now that it's winter, but the M1 Pro isn't as cool to the touch as I thought it'd be. I had a 13" M1 for a short while and that never got warm.

my 2010 MacBook air is running very cool and enjoying Mojave quite well
i don't miss Catalina's refusal to run great programs and the daily log in to iCloud.
M1 Macs seem to be able to run 32 bit Intel apps. Strange side benefit of Rosetta2 I think...
