some apps still send data even when i turn everything off. Did you close everything, reboot phone and then do this?

closing everything does not mean apps are not running

I closed everything and did a hard reboot. Still using data.

----------

yes I did a network reset, and then a setting reset, and it cleared all the apps.

try it for yourself! you will see

----------

its off bro, my icloud, and location services are off

Interesting.. how about email accounts. Try removing them temporarily. Even if they are fetch.

that's the thing. my wife has e-mail accounts on her iphone 4, but she isn't constant data sending. It has to be the difference between the iphone 4 and the 4s that is causing the data to keep sending/receiving. but putting my finger on the culprit is pretty difficult.

but if anyone wants to try, i would appreciate it. Its just I have like 7 e-mail accounts, and I would rather not delete them. lol

I did and you are right. I have the 3G network on and I noticed from a few hours ago my 3G data
increased slightly. I recorded the data, I will not use my phone for at least 3 hours or so, then check back. Nice find by the way! :)

EDIT: I misunderstood what you guys were talking about. Regardless, I checked my data usage and it did
not change. I still think the phone has to communicate with a server or something. Unfortunately, I cannot prove my theory. Way to get my hops up! :)

Agreed. This might be causing the issue.
Reset the data, let the phone sit for sometime, and then go back and check it.

PerplexShyt, perhaps you can do this since you disabled everything. Reset it and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. Then check it and see what the usage is at? I'm running my own little test here too.

Ehh.. anybody notice it goes up faster the more you check it?

For instance, I look at mine now, it says 58 Sent

I keep refreshing it by clicking the back arrow, and clicking cellular usage again, it goes up by 1 or 2 each time I refresh it

If I let it sit for a few minutes, then go back to it, it hasn't moved. Its almost as if just checking these statistics sends data?

Yes that's what I said earlier. Try resetting it, then let it sit for about 15 minutes and report back.

okay guys false alarm here.

the reason why it keeps increasing is because the icloud "Total storage/Available" fields are updated by the server on the previous page, so when you go in and out in and out, it checks everytime you go back.

the reason why my wife's iphone4 isn't doing it, is because she has icloud disabled altogether.

dang, and i thought i really had something here.

Noticed that too. Haha I love how intense we look into this.

My battery isn't as bad as others that I have seen. For me, its Sprint's service that drains it. I just try to hop on wifi and turn off cellular data.

Hopefully we can figure out what is causing this erroneous data polling though!

Edit: Perplex ^^ You da man! Good find.

I just thought of that. I bet that's what is causing it. Bummer.

I thought you said your iCloud was turned off?

I thought you said your iCloud was turned off?

yea it was. but even if you have EVERYTHING turned off in the icloud settings, it still pings the server to return your capacity results.

so what I did is deleted my entire iCloud account, and the storage fields dissapeared from that screen.
And voila, no more data increases. it remained at zero.

false alarm

Good investigative work there :) Thanks for checking this out.
