Good evening everyone! I have an iPad Pro 12.9 inch from November 2015. I've been using i've been using the Apple smart cover, and the back case since I bought it.

Today I sat down, and took off both covers, and just used it sitting down with no case. I love the form factor, and have never able to use my iPad with out any case at all.

My question is, do any of you do this? Are you worried about the giant iPad being damaged? One of the options I was thinking about purchasing the new leather sleeve that Apple has made, and not using the back cover, or the Smart Cover. Just slipping it into the sleeve, what do you guys think?

I have the first gen 12.9 with Apple's silicone back cover. I ordered the new 12.9 and that back cover fits but covers important things like flash etc. I guess I'll be going naked on the back now. I do have a sleeve to put it in when I am not using it however and an Apple Smart Keyboard.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Keep em coming!

I agree. I've never gone naked with an iPad. I've had the iPad 2, iPad 3, and now this one. I took the case off for the firsts time today and I loved it. It's so god damn thin lol.

I always rock a case and screen protector on my iPhone, but and seriously considering going naked now with this. It's so nice of a product to cover up.

I went without one for two weeks and couldn't stand the stress of scratches from setting it down at school and work. Ordered a wrap from slickwraps.com and looovee it. Mahogany wood texture, but I'm waiting for a leather wrap because i had a galaxy tab with leather back and it felt so sexy in my hands. No slipping either, but plus for me

I've never used any sort of back cover or back skin on my 12.9" iPad. I do have a keyboard cover, and when I set it down on a table I just make sure that it's cover side down. Typically if I'm transporting it over longer distance(as in, not from room to room within a house or office building), I'll carry it within a sleeve (Dash Sleeve from Waterfield).

Multiple iPads since 2010 and, except for the original iPad, I have always just used the Apple Smart Cover (pre-iPad Pro) or the Apple Smart Keyboard (iPad Pro). I find most cases/covers for the back just add too much weight and bulk to a beautifully thin machine.

Cases that cover the back serve a few purposes: protect from minor damage (e.g., scratches), protect from more significant potential damage (i.e., drops), and added functionality (e.g., kickstand). I suppose cases can also provide some originality/personalization too, but this is not a need for me.

I travel with my iPad, take it back/forth to work, etc. and have never had issues with scratches. Even the protruding camera on the some of the iPads has been fine. Having said that, I'm sure it can scratch and I'm sure others may have had issues with scratches. However, in my experience, the back is more resilient to scratches than I would have thought. Also, after the "honeymoon" period, a few minor scratches wouldn't bother me anyway (it's called patina ;) YMMV, of course, depending on the type of adventures you and your iPad go on.

For potential major damage I have AppleCare+. Some may not like the added expense, but, for me, the cost is offset (at least in part) by the multiple cases I would probably have bought in a quest to find the "perfect" case.

I don't have a need for added functionality that some cases provide. The Apple Smart Covers/Smart Keyboards provide all of the functionality I have needed.

This works for me, my use cases, and my wallet. Other folks will have different situations, desires, needs, or uses that dictate differently, of course. I could certainly see how a "skin" could help with scratches and giving added grip to help prevent major damage (e.g., drops) without adding significant weight/bulk.

All iPads naked at all times. And I've owned 1-2 iPads at any time since the day the first one was released. By far my most used device. Never seen more than a faint scratch on one.

I have mine in a case with a holder for the pencil and it attaches to a smart keyboard. This thing is over a grand and I occasionally drop things. I also have a glass screen protector on it LOL.
