Does Apple do a credit check for Apple iPhone upgrade program in additon to checking carrier??

I'm considering joining Apple's iPhone upgrade program and am currently a Verizon customer. I know getting my order in as quickly as possible will hopefully ensure I receive it on launch day. Will selecting the upgrade program vs choosing Verizon's installment (as I have always done in the past) be just as quick? Or does Apple need to do a credit check and then go through verifying with Verizon? I tried a test run using an iPhone 8 Plus and it appears to go right through, with no extra step or credit check, just the usual numer, zip code, and PIN. Thanks in advance! 🙂
