I just got an Apple Watch for my wife and loves it. Came with a free three month trial of FitnessPlus.

We want to do workouts in front of our 4K Samsung TV and it supports apps including AppleTV.

Wondering if an AppleTV box that Apple sells is a requirement as opposed to just having the Samsung TV with AppleTV service.

She has an iPad but says that screen is too small during workouts. iPhone as well. TV in the living room would be perfect.

From what I found, Fitness+ requires app on Apple TV so 3rd party Apple TV app or Airplay 2 support is not enough…
So only iPhone / iPad / AppleTV
Thanks for mentioning because I was complaining about not having Fitness+ in my country but I see it’s sick.

Stupid Greedy Apple ?

Darn. I’ve been wanting to buy an AppleTV lately but would only be able to go for the 4K edition.

The latest 4K is too expensive imo at the moment and the previous 4K version seems to not be a great investment…unless I can find one at a great deal.

Don’t do what Apple wants :) AppleTV App on Samsung TV I have is working properly, even better than Netflix.

Just to confirm, there is a list of compatible devices:

It says that it might work but not fully integrated with AW:

*Apple Fitness+ supports AirPlay 2-enabled TVs or devices, allowing you to stream the audio and video from your Fitness+ workouts. Onscreen metrics aren’t available when using AirPlay. Metrics such as timers, heart rate and Activity Ring celebrations are still available on your Apple Watch.

Edit: I am struggling now if it will work or not on Samsung TV via AirPlay2 (sharing to TV)

Thanks for the insight. I was able to get the workout to AirPlay over to my Samsung TV and as stated in the documentation, only the video shows up on the screen and not any of the health metrics or time elapsed. Works well enough so that works for me. Thank you!

FWIW, I have not complaints about mine. I actually like the old Siri remote, but if that bothers you, you can always buy the new remote separately.

I’ve never used either remote. And as for the older 4K model vs. the newest 4K model, I know the older 4K model still works well but price is the name of the game for me here. Just really gonna depend on which I can find a good deal on.
