This is really interesting. I was just about to post about the battery life on my 2020 iPad Pro and never thought to see what the drain is with the pencil removed.

Overnight, my iPad goes down about 15% and I use the iPad for 2-3 hours a day and it'll usually be in the low 30% at night.

Resurrecting this thread a year and a half later to add a me too. My iPad Pro 11 2nd gen has had horrible battery life the past year or two. My kid has the same tablet, non-cell version, and great battery life. I rarely use the pencil, she asked if she could use it, it got left on her tablet and the battery life tanked while I noticed mine suddenly didn't need to be charged nightly anymore. Moved it back to mine, with pencil attached but otherwise idle and screen not on, it loses about 30% charge across 18 hours.

My pencil self discharges over several days and is always 0% after a week or so. I do not use it often and when I do it only takes a few minutes to bring it back to life. No way it is best for me, with little use, to keep my pencil charged at all times. It does make a 5-9% difference in discharge on my iPad Pro.
