Does Apple push out new channels over time?

I am a new ATV owner and I can't speak from experience with previous generations of ATV... does Apple periodically push-out new channels/content options to ATV?

And, how frequently?

Thanks for insight... I am fairly impressed with all the channels on Roku. Hopefully, Apple will embrace their app store concept to AppleTV.
