I would normally assume Apple would repair a 3G with another 3G but can anyone confirm this? Since this phone is so old and not supported or sold anymore would they repair it with something else maybe?

Mine has water damage so I'm assuming their repair will just be a replacement.

I'm trying to decide what I need to do with this, either sell it (which I more than likely won't since I can't wipe it), or throw it away, or have Apple repair it.

Yes, same model, color and storage.
But why would anyone pay $150 to have an iphone 3G replaced?
Its not worth it, I'd throw it out.
