Does Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) work with iPhone 5S?

Just wondering if anyone who purchased this version of the watch happened to get it to work with their iPhone 5S. On Apple's website the S3 GPS version works with the 5S, so I was hoping GPS+Cellular versions could also if I opted out of the Cellular connectivity option.

Sorry but no. Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires iPhone 6 or later running iOS 11 or later and Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) requires iPhone 5S or later running iOS 11 or later.

Yea sadly it may be time to upgrade - the SE is a killer phone for $350
