Cracked out of the box, yes.

Cracked because of user negligence, technically no but will probably still replace it anyway.

Part of the cost of your Apple TV is for the included remote. If you separate the cost of the remote then the 32GB Apple TV is $69. Over simplified of course.

I did find plenty of places(INCLUDING AMAZON) that has screen protector for new ATV4's remote!!! Guess I should look into that first... better than nothing, right?

When I bought my AppleTV at the Apple Store I was told that they recommend getting AppleCare because the remotes will break if you drop them. So I'm guessing they will cover it (or the employee didn't know what he was talking about).

I did an online chat tonight and the Apple rep told me "cracked remotes are not covered"

I have not used Apple's online chat in a long time. When I did it yesterday, the rep on the other side of the chat had a very un-human quality to him or her.... can't say what it was, but I didn't feel like I was chatting to a real live human?

I've had good luck with their online chat, but their responses are very scripted. They probably have quite a few canned replies that they use.

it is not applecare+, so it does not cover damage. Applecare only covers manufacture defects (US, i think the other countries are different).
