All cell phone carriers lie. I'm not in an LTE area, but Verizon says I am in their best voice and 3G data coverage area. I can't even pen get enough signal to make a call. AT&T is only slightly better. They lie like crazy.
Does AT&T lie about coverage? That answer is simple.
Just look at their commercials that claim they have 4G in thousands of more cities and towns than Verizon. What they fail to mention is that in order to be able to claim that, they had to make up their own definition of 4G to include speeds that, to my knowledge, no other carrier worldwide considers 4G.
Every time I see that commercial, I cringe because it's 100% deceptive advertising.

AT&T has inaccurate map info even when it is NOT in their favor. Despite having HSPA+ service in my area for months, the coverage map still only shows 3G coverage.
