Yes it can. I’ve had that on a 12 pro max when I was using it for gps and it was sitting on my dashboard. It definitely showed burn-ins. Luckily I was within the return window at the time so I exchanged it.

There aren’t any screen burn in threads on Mac Rumors- so that pretty much sums it up for the most part.

Display units in stores can develop image retention since they’re displaying the same image at full brightness all day long continuously, but when used normally, it’s not an issue.

It's never happened in my experience - I had an 8 Plus for nearly 4 years. As others have already said, it can happen, but I think it's not very common for regular users.

It’s an issue with OLED screens rather to than LCDs.

It can take many months of presenting the same image for burn in to appear on an OLED screen therefore it’s not something you would experience from normal use.

Which means it was probably displaying the same UI on the screen at high brightness for extended periods. Those are conditions that are prone to image retention.

I experienced burn-in on both iPhone LCD and OLED display. But trust me, iPhone OLED screen is the best-of-its-type against burn-in

Personally, I have not seen a burn-in on any screen, on any device, from any company, under any condition or usage, for at least 20 years, EXCEPT e-ink screens, and those burn-ins would last only for several seconds.

I've seen it at phone shops, where the shop (or the customer) has manually maxed out the phone screen's brightness, and has left the phone to display the same home screen image the vast majority of the time.

That being said, a user typically doesn't use thier phone that way, so screen burn in is a relatively rare occurrence (just complete a search on this forum to see how little threads there are on this topic).

I bought an XS Max from the Apple refurbished store that had burn-in where the battery icon is.

That's not burn-in on e-ink screens. That's how they are supposed to work.

Right, it's technically not burn-in - but I have a 2.9 inch B/W Waveshare module, which definitely shows signs of pixel retention after being left with the same image for a month or two. It's only visible while the screen refreshes.

On this image, you can see remnants of some bars, which are still not erased after hundreds of screenupdates.

Is the new screen also got the problem?

Yes my current iPhone 12PM which I’ve had since launch has the home bar burned in to the screen. Can see it burned in at the bottom on the multitasking screen.

My iPhone X also had the exact same burn in as well.

Is it normal for it to happen after 1 month of use? My brand new 1 month old iPhone 13 already has this problem

It probably occurs where the signal and wifi icons are always shown, but not noticeable for obvious reasons.

No it does not, just tried switching them both OFF and nothing abnormal there. You can check it by yourself by turning the plane mode ON and WiFi OFF.

I can see it vaguely on my 12 mini too, but honestly would not notice it if you did not point it out. 😋
