I guess this has been asked many times before, but a search didn't bring anything up?

Does putting a new Hard Drive in a MBP void the warranty? I am guessing so, since you need to dismantle the system?

Is it possible to get a Genius to do it instore and keep the warranty intact?

Once I get my MBP (probably 2012 refresh), if a Hybrid HDD & SSD is not an option, I thought about putting one in there myself?

But I just wondered about the warranty issues?

Thanks

Stew

It does not depending upon the year. What model specifically is it?

I don't think he has his machine yet.

There's no telling for sure that it will not void the warranty, but assuming the hard drive is similarily easy to remove in the next refresh/redesign you'd only be out of luck if you broke something during the switch.

The new, non-factory drive would also not be covered if it failed.

Assuming they're still using the Unibody design (or something similarly easy to open), then no - it won't void the warranty (unless you break something in the process, of course). In fact, the User's Guide has instructions for upgrading both the HD and RAM. You can download the current guide from Apple's site.
