Does deleting AirTag disconnect it from my account?

I lost an AirTag that is not worth retrieving (at an airport a thousand miles away). If I "delete" it from "Find My..." app, does it completely disconnect it from my account permanently?

I don't care if some stranger who finds it registers it to their own account, I just don't want it to be connected to my account and/or personal information in any way, and I no longer want to see it listed under my Apple devices.

I think this should remove it from your Apple ID. (And I'd think someone would have to reset it if they wanted to use it)

You can remove an item from Find My using your iPhone so that someone else can register it to their Apple ID.

Thanks! I had read that support article, but it seemed kind of vague. But I'll have to assume that's the proper way to take care of it.
