iPhone X Does fast charge work with the USB C port on a mac?

You can plug in the USB-C to Lightning cable from the adapter itself into the iPhone for fast charge.
Does the same go for if you plug the cable from iPhone to USB C port on macbook that is then plugged into the adapter? Or does fast charge apply only if you connect the adapter directly to the adapter/charging block?

Has to be directly plugged into the charger for fast charging.
