Does iOS 9 install on it's own?

I downloaded iOS 9 OTA on an iPad last night. After downloading, it asked if I wanted to proceed installing. I clicked 'Later' intending on installing it this weekend once I back it up.

Today I picked up the iPad to use and it had magically installed iOS 9 and prompted me with the 'Hello' screen!

Does iOS install itself later if manually downloaded?

PS: Other people at the house have access to it and its not password protected so someone else could have installed it. I'm just curious to know if it's a possibility that it would install itself.

Just turned on my parents iPad Air 2 (as obvious it hasn't been updated for like 5 weeks) to check it out. Currently iOS 9 is being downloaded automatically and its taking like 25 minutes which is strange.

I'm not sure if I want to install it just yet so hopefully there's an option.

It won't install on its own, but it will download the device on its own.

The update is really really good on the Air 2. Definitely recommend it.

Usually later it means it will wait for you. I've seen many devices start downloading the update without our permission. Please report it to Apple that you don't like the automatic updates:

I dont mind it downloading automatically as understandably Apple is nudging you to update. More importantly there's an option to delete the download, which address many concerns. I do know automatic downloads will never automatically install themselves.

Manual downloads however I'm still not sure. No one claims to have installed it thereby maybe manual downloads do install themselves after some time. I'm not sure.

Don't be scared: Upgrade! iOS9 is a worthy upgrade.

That may have been the case, I manually triggered the download via OTA and left my iPad at home, when I got back about 3 hours later it's already been installed.
