widgets on the lockscreen are not going to be draining battery and pulling data until you access the lockscreen.
it's not like they are going to be updating all this into 24/7 when the phone is locked and sitting on your desk.

i've had the htc lockscreen for months and have had no issues with battery drain.

It does, yes.

1. Better Notification System - Make it like Androids or WebOS' or better yet combine their best features.
2. Widgets/Live icons - Since many people don't like full on widgets, IMO live icons would be a nice compromise to satisfy both parties, maybe live icons that take 2 or 4 icon spaces?
3. Integrated SIP support, I'd personally like that cause with most SIP apps you can't receive calls.
4. Mass Storage Support on Windows(Access to filesystem)... at least give us some space to we can use the iPhone as a flash drive if we need to.
5. iTunes improvements... on Windows, let us drag and drop pictures, ringtones(you can drag and drop a ringtone now but only one) and videos into the iPhone without the need to sync.
6. REAL multitasking toggle for apps of your choice, frankly I'm very happy with current implementation of multitasking, what I'd like though is for the media to play in the background, like news, say SkyNews, I want to turn that on and for it to play in the background while I do something else, that's my only need for the "real" multitasking.
7. Alarm with a configurable snooze function(amount of snoozes, time in between).
8. Custom SMS/email tones.
9. DivX/XviD/MKV support - Never happening I know.
9. Full Bluetooth support, sending files, contacts, syncing, etc...
10. Wi-Fi Sync / Wi-Fi Direct support.
11. Free navigation with an ability to download maps to use them offline.

It does, yes.

<snip>

1. Hell yes!
2. Meh
3. Meh
4. Why hasn't this happened yet?!
5. I think iTunes should be scrapped at started again- it's crap
6. I like Apple's current multitasking
7. Everything is 9 mins! (Don't know why!)
8. Hell yes! (Now my fiance has an iPhone as well I never know who has got the email)
9. Got VLC before it was taken off! :D (No DivX etc is a serious short coming of the Apple TV)
10. (+ your 2nd 9!) Wifi sync for sure, bluetooth must be dying out as a way to sync. Don't need "cloud" just when I am at home.
11. Not overly fussed. My O2 network is pretty good and getting google maps.

It works fine, but from a UI standpoint, it's a patch-job. Just like Spotlight, iPod controls, and potentially notifications unless they overhaul the UI.

agreed completely, glad i'm not the only one that thinks this.

exactly. if we got widgets i would expect them to work like androids, ie they dont get information unless you want them to (when you wake/unlock the device).

ditch the search page and give us an iOS dashboard on the far left page (with a search widget for people that actually use that feature), or put them on the lock screen. i'm not desperate for them, but if we get them i'd like to see them implemented in this way.

Widgets are great and unless they are active don't use any data (ie only at scheduled time or when the screen with that widget is active.

For an example of what widgets can do look at this http://www.spb.com/android-software/shell/ replacement shell for Android. Its super slick.

Would love to see more UI interaction like this on IOS

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

Well I'm a fairly basic user, don't get into jailbreaking or anything - but I could really go for some widgets. It would be nice to have one screen that shows the weather, some news headlines, a little snapshot of my calendar for the day, my stocks. I really don't see how that hurts anyone.

If you firmly believe that iOS needs a COMPLETE overhaul, then iOS probably is not for you. Maybe you should try Android. Not being negative, but they are two different things for different people. I personally don't like widgets, excessive noises, etc. I like things basic and streamlined and to WORK. Which is why I love iOS.

Widgets will always be more of a computer thing for me, not a phone thing. I wouldn't mind a few little things- I think the weather icon should change and show the current temperature/conditions. The calendar app changes to show the proper date, so I think the weather should do something similar. But full on widgets- I'm not really in to it.

I use just a few widgets on my mac at home and they take forever to load most of the time. Even the weather, stocks, etc. I'd rather not see widgets on my iPhone, but as long as there is a way to turn them on/off then everyone could be happy.

Overall, the GUI is fine, in my opinion. It's stable, easy on the eyes, and efficient.

Hopefully future releases focus on adding features, and of course, keeping things bug free.

Complete overhaul? YES!!! I'm tired of buying an iPhone that has the same UI as it did in 2007.

Lets start off with iOS archaic, outdated and intrusive notification system

Also, the ability to close apps within the apps themselves, it's annoying to hit the home button twice, long press the app icon then press on the "x"....completely LAME!!!!!

I don't think you're understanding the point. It'll still be iOS, but it needs a UI change pronto. That's what people mean as a complete overhaul. We don't mean that we'll be able to customize it.

Same here, i like to be able to see my wallpaper not it be cluttered by apps which i don't use every second of the day! That's the same with my MacBook Pro as well.

That's a good list, but on your specific example for SkyNews above, isn't that a limitation with the SkyNews app rather than the current iOS multitasking?

I thought that there was a specific multitasking API added in iOS4 to allow apps to continue to do background media streaming for as long as they like after they get switched to the background (as opposed to the more general purpose task completion API also added as part of iOS4 multitasking that allows an app to do any background processing for up to 10 minutes after being switched into the background).

If my understanding is correct (and it may not be, I'm a computer scientist but not an iOS developer) then the above is not an iOS limitation but more to do with the fact that the developer of the SkyNews app haven't written/updated their app to use the existing iOS multitasking API to enable background streaming.

Why do those additions constitute "patch jobs?"

It's not obvious?

Home screens are composed of a grid of icons - except spotlight, which is it's own, odd home screen with a little search box at the top.

The multitasking bar pushes the entire UI off screen. The iPod controls are to the multitasking bar as spotlight is to home screens.

ok i tried to download the ios file i needed to jailbreak my new ipod (4.2.1) i have downloaded it 30 times and no matter .
