Obviously I know that ios5 has iCloud, but does it still allow you to use your MobileMe account for mail/calendars/contacts?

I don't plan on upgrading from MobilleMe to iCloud just yet so I want to make sure before I upgrade my phone from ios4 to ios5 that I wont suddenly lose the ability to access my MobileMe information.

    Thanks.

According to the iCloud FAQ, existing MobileMe accounts will port over to iCloud:

Will I be able to keep my MobileMe email address when I move to iCloud?
Yes. If you have an active MobileMe account when you sign up for iCloud, you’ll be able to keep your me.com or mac.com email address and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, and calendars, as well as your bookmarks, to the new service. When iCloud becomes available this fall, Apple will provide details and instructions on how to make the move.

I know, but MobileMe users also have the option of not porting, since MobileMe will remain operational well into 2012. Thus, I'm trying to make sure that for those of us who choose not to port, that we can still use our MobileMe accounts in ios5.

    2 options:

Either you port over from ME to iCloud and lost ME

Or you stay with ME but lost iCloud.

I am heading down this same path.

I have three Macs on Snow Leopard that will *not* be moved to Lion due to various hardware accessories and software that is not and never will be Lion compatible. These share a Mobile Me account to sync address book and calendar. I have an iPad and three iPhones that sync with the same Mobile Me account so that all six devices have one address book and calendar.

iCloud will not work with Snow Leopard

iCloud requires iOS 5, and only one of our phones can upgrade to iOS 5.

If I buy a new iPhone, it will come with iOS 5, and it will not be able to sync with Mobile Me.

So it sounds like my best option is to stick with all my current hardware, Snow Leopard, and iOS 4.x until June 2012, and then find some alternate service that will work with my stuff, abandoning 12 years of iTools/dot.Mac/MobileMe/iCloud...

We might be in luck. If you look at this walkthrough: http://www.karthikk.net/2011/06/how-to-create-a-new-icloud-id-in-ios-5/
for setting up an iCloud account on ios5 you'll see that MobileMe accounts are still an option, so it looks like you can upgrade to ios5 without changing from MobileMe to iCloud.

The other possibility is the rumor that 10.6.9 will bring iCloud support to Snow Leopard
