I left my pencil in my hotel room and took the ipad out for the day. I came back and can't find the pencil.

It does not show up as connected via bluetooth or in the battery widget. Does that mean it is for sure no longer in my room (the battery was charged) or does it not reconnect automatically when it goes out of range until you start actually using it?

It seems to need to "wake up, with a little movement. As silly as it sounds. Try stomping around a bit, shaking the bed, etc.

It uses Bluetooth low energy spec 4.x so it will shut off after some time of non use or if the gadgets are separated for X amount of time.

When you get the pencil just plug it into the port on the tablet and it will resync , or just pick it up and start using it.

I want to know if it maybe fell behind the bed or if it for sure got thrown away (with the linen or something).

Once you connect the pencil to the iPad via Bluetooth, it stays paired even if the Pencil is out of range of the iPad. Once the iPad comes back into range, it will reconnect. If the Bluetooth connection is turned off, then you will need to pair it again. As far as the widget goes, the Pencil needs to move a bit in order for it to show up there.

Once you bring it closer to the iPad again it will reconnect, assuming it still has battery power.

It reconnects most of the time but sometimes I find that Ill have to reconnect it back to the iPad and a couple of times Ive had to actually turn off Bluetooth and re pair.

yes sometimes the pencil will need to be connected to the port on the tablet to re-establish the connection when both have been dormant.

over the weekend the tablet sits plugged up (so does the pencil) until monday and when i open them up to use the tablet and pencil, many times the connection is not there. only when i plug in the pencil to the tabs port will the connection re-establish.

Pencil shuts down if it's motionless for a certain amount of time. It'll wake up with motion and reconnect.

If its been motionless for an extended amount of time, it may disconnect from Bluetooth altogether and you'll have to plug it in to the bottom of the iPad to re-pair.
