I bought AT&T full price on launch day and it came unlocked. I believe there's only a few variants of the 5S. They are locked to the carrier once you sign a contract.

AT&T Gophone $60 plan.

Gives you 2GB of data (LTE/4G) and unlimited calls and texts. Once you're in you can buy refills on eBay or callingmart for about $50-55

So say I tried at&t gophone and then next month I want to try tmobiles payo plans can I keep my number or thats it new number?

I had the tmobile store planned I was going to go to on the way home from work after I picked up the iphone and when I walked in with my iphone they said their systems are down and were closing the store. Now I'm not saying that was a sign but hey I have another night to decide which carrier and monthly plan to chose. I'll take a look at the att one but for some reason I was set on the tmobile one. I think tmobile has 2.5 gb of data for $60

you can. Give Tmo your account number and they'll port the number for you.

call them and ask for the 30 dollar per month prepaid plan. 100 minutes, Unlimited data (5 GB of LTE), and unlimited texting.

I'd get the Verizon model. The bands Verizon uses for their LTE phones are governed by the FCC rule that all phone that operate on the bands must be unlocked. Starting with the iPhone 5, all Verizon iPhones come with both IMEI and MEID numbers. Unfortunately, the 5 doesn't support any other LTE bands other then Verizon's but the 5S does. The TMO and SIM-Free iPhones are GSM only, meanwhile the Verizon iPhone supports Verizon CDMA and any GSM carrier that allows you to bring your own device.

Interesting how they unified the 5S. The 5 for Verizon had its own model number. With the 5S the only oddball is the Sprint model.

Has anyone found out if any tweaks are needed to have the 5S data working on certain carriers? I remember something about the 5 and StraightTalk needing a tweak.
