Apple ships their ACD and MacPros in their retail box, i dont know why but all the pictures i have seen have showed them arrive in their normal box, yet Apple laptops and consumer Desktops have a brown box around them!

That they will just chuck things on your porch I'd be worried that they would forge your signature as well.

That would suck. I have seen UPS give someone a package that clearly wasnt that persons.

For example I was leaving my apartment building, and UPS was looking for an apartment. This one guy says oh yeah thats me I will take it. He signs, UPS hands it over.

That guy most assuredely didnt live in that apartment. And while the UPS man was there, I asked the guy who signed if he was going to leave it at Julie's door. He was kind of shocked, he said yeah and took it up to ther door.

Luckily she got it. But this is the kind of negligence I am talking about.

And who wouldnt want to sign for a package when it is clearly a Cinema Display or a Mac Pro? This is a major reason I wish Apple didnt ship some thing in retail boxes.

But I guess if things arent stolen they have no reason to worry about. It makes me worry sometimes though :(

wow, that's creepy... good thing you were there :D

My new ACD came today in a retail box. I was surprised and annoyed. There is this really large picture of the ACD on the side of the box and now my nosy neighbors know I now have it. I live in an apartment complex and I don't trust my neighbors.

My Macpro is schedule to ship tomorrow. I asked the delivery dude approximately what time of day he normally delivers so that I could make arrangements to be home. He didn't have an answer... but he told me to not worry, that if I wasn't home, he would just leave it at the front office. That in itself it not so bad, but since the box will be retail, everyone that sees it will know whats inside. If the office girl turns her back long enough, someone can grab it... well, two people can grab it.... and then run off with it. If it was in plain brown box that would be less likely to happen.

I think all online purchases that need large packages should be delivered in generic (but nicely constructed) brown boxes with no logo. I don't care about the retail pictures. Sure they are cool boxes when you first look at them... but they wind up stored in my closet or atttic until I need to packup the unit... so who cares? If I need pretty retail boxes, I'll buy at the store.
