I love everything about this machine (Size, Weight, Screen, OS etc) but have only ever tried it on a table top / desk.

Does it fit comfortably on your lap without squashing your legs together?

is this a real question? i mean, what's keeping you from trying it on your lap?? or do you not yet own one? i use it on my lap all the time, it's great...

It is a bit too small for me, but it works.
From this point of view the 13" is better.

Thanks for your helpful replies. I am actually torn between the new macpro and this one .. and now that there is only 1lb weight difference usability is an important factor.

13" is the sensible option but the 12" has me transfixed.

I use it in all spaces and conditions. This is why about 6 years ago I gave up a desktop I need to be able to use in every room in the house, except the restroom ... ;-)

When I sit straight in my recliner, I generally like to rest laptops about mid thigh, to prevent them from boiling my junk.
I'm 6 foot 5, about 2 meters, tall and I need to rest the 12" a little higher up than I normally prefer.
Both because I want to be closer to the smaller screen and because if I keep it mid thigh it rests between my thighs not on them.

I had a 15" Pro about a year ago and it fit my lap perfectly.

So in my case, the 12" occasionally roasts my chestnuts.

If you don't want to picture a grown ass man sitting on the toilet, stop reading now.

Since someone brought up the toilet further upthread:
I sometimes (every time) bring my laptops with me to *eherm* the office.
And I need to sit like this

If I want to use the 12" while on the throne.
-frilly panties and all.
The 15" was much more comfortable.
