I'm almost happy with my MBA 2011 performance. I mostly code on my Mac with atom/vscode apps. But I'm unable to use recent after effects or alpha blender versions due to lack of recent OpenGL versions support of my GPU.

Does 2018 MBA(which have lower cpu speeds btw) will be able to support after effects or it will still unbearable to use? Does that strange named GPU in MBA 2018 much worse then in 2017-2018 low end MBPs(in my country 2017 lowest MBP is priced nearly the same as MBA 2018)

Where are you from? If the refurbished store is available to you, the 2017 non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro is cheaper than the MacBook Air.

It sounds like for your work, you'd be happier with a MacBook Pro. Non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro would be affordable, but the Touch Bar version would be faster. The Iris graphics in the MacBook Pros are not fast but they are still significantly faster than the UHD graphics in the MacBook Air. Of course, the CPU in the Pro is also much faster.

Note that the MacBook Pro has a better screen. Also, the Air is just 9% lighter than the Pro, and the footprint is the same as the Pro.

I'm from Russia. For reason nobody knows apple's official store here have always highest price. Official retail partners have lower price and unofficial resellers buying it abroad on their own have lowest price. But I'm not sure I ever saw refurbished Macs in sale(while iOS devices are sold as refurbished) Yes it seems that MBA 2018 is completely strange purchase, given lowest CPU clocks on entire Mac line and UHD GPU. I'm just not sure if I really need an upgrade from MBA'11. For my tasks its much faster and convenient then i7+1080gtx windows desktop, just not working for video hobby
