Questions:

What is calibrating a battery, and how?
What is the best software for an intel C2D Leopard to test the battery etc?

My battery has never died on me. I have had it go on reserve battery power 3 times though before I charged it.
I get about 2 hours battery life with BT on, brightness on full, and running about 5 apps on average (itunes, msn, imail, safari, etc)

Calibrating battery:

For testing battery, I personally use Coconut battery.

Did NOBODY else notice the problem with the above screenshot??

It says:

Charger connected: No
Battery Charging: Yes

...

lol, how does that one work?

I keep mine plugged in most of the time (95%+) and it seems to be doing ok, thankfully.

(/me touches wood!)

You've owned the machine for 7 months, and have had only 5 cycles!?

I've owned mine for 5 months, and already have over 40 on it.

I've had mine for exactly a month and I have 40 cycles... should I keep it plugged in more often? I thought it was always bad to keep it plugged in.

I got 150 cycles in 4 months on my old computer, so no worries.

According to Coconut Battery, my Mac is 17 months old, has 272 battery cycles on it, and the current battery capacity at FULL is 3534/5500 mAh :(

Going to calibrate the battery, so if that improves the capacity (from 100% charge, it takes about an hour to drop to 30%, then it just plummets to 5% in a matter of minutes, and goes to sleep).

Might also be time for a new battery? I use this sweetness everyday, so I knew my battery would degrade quickly.

I have a macbook pro (mid2009) it is at 97% health since I kept is plug in alot. But this whole week I been using it until it tells me to plug in and i notice that the percentage has increase so I hope if I continue to do this it will gain back to 100 or 99 percentage health since the computer is only two month old.

Should I be keeping my Macbook Pro plugged in more often? I use it everyday. All day at school and then when I get home for homework etc.

I agree with the poster who said it's battery protection. Take for instance, charge your battery (I've done this with my PSP), then let it sit unused for a long time. Go back to it, if it's not dead, it's very low on charge. This applies to your laptop. After the circuit switches off currency to the battery once it's charged, it will begin to power just the computer. Over time, that battery will slowly leak part of it's charge, and when it gets to 95%, the charging system will kick in again.

Also, if you keep knocking the magsafe out from time to time, it slowly will drain the battery each time, and it will NOT recharge, as everyone has said, until the charge has reached 95%.

Once I figured out that draining the battery a great deal before plugging it in was bad for the battery, I stopped doing that now I put like 1 cycle on the battery a week if that. I make sure to do a monthly calibration. But yeah anyway, I have 37 cycles and 99% battery health. I got my MacBook Pro 13" on August 3rd. So yeah I am glad I learned pretty early what was good practice.

37 cycles seems ridiculously high, but maybe you are on battery a lot

Not the case for early 2007 17" mbp.

My 2007 MBP was plugged in 90% of the time and 2 batteries bloated. Finally I stopped using the batter all together, there is no battery now for 2 years, the performance stabilized and is now increasing. The logic board is retarded, it was replaced 3 times due to the fans roaring CONSTANTLY while the system was always cool or gently warm to the touch always, well, I disconnected both fans now for 2 months and performance is still climbing while temps are still consistent with no peeks.

My new 2 week old late 2011 17" 2.5Ghz i7 maxed out (LION) MBP's battery stays at 11:46 hours on a full charge each time.
