Do you thin the silver link bracelet matches/would match the SG apple watch sport? Also, I've heard that stainless steel bands might wear the aluminum on the sport watch. So does that mean leather band is the way to go?

Did, but confused and site doesn't answer other questions. For some reason, when I called 800-MY-APPLE, the lady said only sport bands are compatible with sport watch. pretty sure that is bogus...

That is bogus. The only thing you have to worry about regarding your question is if you think it looks ok.

All bands will fit all casings of the same size.

How the various finishes match is another story. Some may not look great together (Stainless Steel lug against Aluminum or Space Gray Sport, etc).

Yes, but the people at my store kept telling me that they didn't want to mix things up and mixing bands in store was not allowed either. Guess, I went in on a bad day or got a mean Watch associate""
