I have a Tesla and would like to have it always connect to my iPhone hotspot when I’m driving. However it takes too much work to go to settings and turn hotspot on every time I get into my car, so if I leave it on all the time do you think it will drain my battery? Do you recommend me just leaving it on?

It WILL drain your battery if you keep it on, but it depends on how the internet is being accessed. For ad-how access where you get data here and there you should still get a full battery after leaving your car.

Well it's not going to be "accessed" when I'm not in the car, just on.

The hotspot's not actually going to stay on anyway unless there's a device actively connected to the iPhone.

I leave the personal hotspot setting to On but I still have to open Settings - Personal Hotspot before it will start broadcasting its SSID and non-Apple devices can connect.

Apple devices on the same iCloud or Family Share account will automatically connect though as long as both bluetooth and wifi are enabled.

I used to rely heavily on my AT&T personal hot spot for my kids. Especially when going on trips. Back in February 2021 I leased my next suv (2021 Volvo XC90) I love how that comes with a dedicated modem with a plug in SIM card. Hot spot option. I used to turn on and off my hot spot on my phone when kids required it. I’ve been with AT&T for years so once my trial period was gone I went ahead and added that SIM card to my wireless plan for $15 a month. Up to 8 devices can connect. As soon as car is on my kids devices connect automatically. No more on and off from my phone. No more “dad turn on your hotspot” No more hot iPhones. No more charging in the car.

You can use Control Center to turn on your hotspot...or to become discoverable if it's already on. You don't need to go into Settings every time. Just long press the upper-left square containing the wireless toggles to get more options.
