Should the search function be harder to activate?

  • Yes, make it harder to trigger. I am getting false positives.

One thing I can't stand is the new pull down to search function, that replaced the old swipe all the way to the left function to search.

While conceptually it is great, I find that it generates too many false positives when swiping normally through my homescreens.

IMO, they need to make the trigger threshold higher (pull down a longer distance) before the search function is activated.

What do you think?

**edit**

To clarify, I am not debating whether the intended function is great. I love it too, and think it is an improvement. The issue is the threshold for triggering the function, which, imo, generates too many false positives.

I think it bothers me more that I can't single click the home button to bring it up. I was just getting into the habit of bringing it up that way on iOS 6. If they bring that function back (or at least the option for it) I don't really care which direction you swipe from.

For anyone who's been using iOS for years though, it's not exactly an intuitive change. At first I thought they got rid of spotlight and had to search how to bring it up.

I've never triggered it by accident. And I could care less if they completely got rid of it. The 5 years that's I've had an iPhone I've never used it.

Like someone else said, it needs to come up when clicking the home button from the home screen.

The big thing I don't like about it personally is- you can't do a web search from it. THAT is the ONLY thing I ever used it for before. Quickly typing something to Google.

If it doesn't have that feature (and I know it won't, Apple is clearly getting away from Google) then I don't want it on my phone at all.

But it does go away when you hit the home button.

EDIT: Do you mean like a triple click or one click in the first page of the home screen??

It gets me pretty often and now on beta 5 I keep pulling up the control center when scrolling way too often. Just minor complaints though.

as i never use the search i dont care either way but its nice not having that pointless screen on the left side of the springboard

I love the new design. So much better than having to swipe all the way left to get to it. Don't get false positives as there is no other reason to swipe down on the home screen.

This, for me. Spotlight on the left side of the homescreen never worked out for me.

I like it. I'm actually using it more often now than in iOS 6 because of how quick and accessible it is.

I think it's brilliant, but I agree that the threshold could be increased.

It also should be able to be triggered while in folders.

They removed the Search web or Search Wikipedia - I used the Search web function a bit before.

As far as Home button goes, over the years (I've had every iPhone from day one) I've come to develop a desire to never push the Home button.. to preserve it longer. They always seem to go bad eventually. So I'm glad to shake the habit of pushing for search.

I'd like an iPad-like scrunch to get to Home screen on the iPhone too...

Poll would need a 3rd option for me,

"I'm used to the change now, but occasionally trigger it by accident".

Nope, this is something I've wanted since the Spotlight page was added! I just find it annoying that it still has that initial lag when you first swipe. :-/

I do use it quite often to find an app buried somewhere in folders or just to find a particular song. It is away better for me this way! I mean swiping through pages to get to it was a bit silly, let's be honest. Now if they can only add web search to it, that I am sure will be coming on the next versions of iOS.

So I am happy with it.

I've never triggered it by accident either ad I love that it is now accessible form any screen and not just the home screen. I think it is a positive change.

Never used Spotlight in the 5/6 years i've used iPhones.

The may of removed the ability to search the web/wikipedia as many people didn't use it perhaps.

Oh, and I never trigger it by accident. Not quite sure how you could do it easily.
