Hi All,
Given the lack of official information on whether 7.5w fast charging is encrypted (as mentioned in the MacRumors test article) I decided to run my own test to see how long it takes for RAVPower to charge an iPhone X 256GB, and then compare the result to 5w and 7.5w results reported by MacRumors. The phone started charging at 0% and as soon as it booted in about 3 minutes, was placed it in the airplane mode to eliminate the effect of data etc.
The results are in the attached file. It looks like RAVPower does NOT fast charge!
For example, notice that at 60min, the charge level was exactly at the 5w wireless level reported in the MacRumors test !
Some other observations:
1. Interestingly, the charging speed was linear in time up to 90% charge, adding about 9% per 15 minutes.
2. There is a nice article by Digital Trends that compares Ravpower to Mophie and Belkin under 5w. Unfortunately, they did it with iPhone 8 so I cannot use my iPhone X results to tell if Ravpower did differently in 11.2.
Comparing this to the MacRumors results, it is clear that the claims by RAVPower about 7.5w charging with iPhone X are not true as the battery charge levels over time correspond to the 5w levels and not to the 7.5w levels reported by MacRumors. This is consistent with what Choetech posted about 7.5w charging being encrypted, and so it is currently locked by Apple to Mophie and Belkin only.
Hope this helps clarify confusion about fast charging support and what to expect from this charger.
