Hi All,

Given the lack of official information on whether 7.5w fast charging is encrypted (as mentioned in the MacRumors test article) I decided to run my own test to see how long it takes for RAVPower to charge an iPhone X 256GB, and then compare the result to 5w and 7.5w results reported by MacRumors. The phone started charging at 0% and as soon as it booted in about 3 minutes, was placed it in the airplane mode to eliminate the effect of data etc.

The results are in the attached file. It looks like RAVPower does NOT fast charge!
For example, notice that at 60min, the charge level was exactly at the 5w wireless level reported in the
MacRumors test !

Some other observations:

1. Interestingly, the charging speed was linear in time up to 90% charge, adding about 9% per 15 minutes.

2. There is a nice article by Digital Trends that compares Ravpower to Mophie and Belkin under 5w. Unfortunately, they did it with iPhone 8 so I cannot use my iPhone X results to tell if Ravpower did differently in 11.2.

Comparing this to the MacRumors results, it is clear that the claims by RAVPower about 7.5w charging with iPhone X are not true as the battery charge levels over time correspond to the 5w levels and not to the 7.5w levels reported by MacRumors. This is consistent with what Choetech posted about 7.5w charging being encrypted, and so it is currently locked by Apple to Mophie and Belkin only.

Hope this helps clarify confusion about fast charging support and what to expect from this charger.

This is what I’ve heard as well. 7.5w is encrypted and is only available to Belkin and mophie. Sounds like some crap Apple would do. Why Apple?? Why not just give us the 10w Samsung offers!?

Yeah so wireless charger maker posted in their Amazon listing that Apple encrypted it so while the pad will wireless charge it wouldn't do the fast charge and I agree with you. Exact crap Apple pulls, didn't even put a fast charger wall charger in the box with the X

10w is fast charge that’s already mainstream thanks to Android devices. Apple is such a pain to literally encrypt a fast charge mode and make it less then Samsung’s wireless fast charging speed so that it’s not available to third party companies, similar to when l the lightning cable first came out. They should have just jumped on board at 10w. I’m tired of apple’s crap!

I forgot about the lighting cable but yeah that's pretty crappy to encrypt fast charging. Especially on the X and what it cost.

Come on guys, you should know by now, it's Apple and they are greedy. The shareholders demand maximum profit.
If you can afford an expensive iPhone X, they expect you are willing to pay a premium for either the mophie or the Belkin chargers.

Not sure why Apple adopted the USB-C Power Delivery standard but encrypt the wireless charging. I can use a third party charger that supports USB-PD so the iPhone X and the iPad Pros all charge super quickly.

So basically my Samsung Qi stand which is just half the price of the Belkin and the Mophie only charges my iPhone at 5w. Major fail.
