I'm trying to think of the best way to put it, but Safari (Version 26.0 (21622.1.22.11.14)) just seems more jittery, like it is constantly on the precipice of crashing. I've always used a lot of tabs, so even in the previous version, I would run into issues with Safari freezing (or crashing), but now it seems like it's about to crash with even fewer tabs open. Anybody else feel this way?

So glad you posted this – YES. (Sequoia 15.7 here, fresh Safari 26 update) and it’s like everything suddenly got this weird leaden sluggishness. Even typing into the address bar feels laggy, suggestions pop up with a little delay. Oh and btw, compact tabs are totally broken. Can’t click into the address bar, can’t close tabs. Not just me either, folks have already mentioned it here on the forum and there’s even a YT video showing it. Unreal.

I decided to skip Tahoe completely after the beta mess, figured I’d stick with “stable” Sequoia and just take the security updates while Apple polished things up. Instead, first update out of the gate (15.7 + Safari 26) takes down what was a relatively tolerable Safari. Haven’t seen it this bad in years. What the heck is going on over there??

Update: The sluggishness is starting to settle down (maybe it’s just indexing in the background), but the compact tabs bug is still really annoying. Hopefully they push out a fix soon.

Oh yeah, Safari has issues. I don't even remember the last time Safari crashed for me before updating to Tahoe. Yesterday Safari crashed twice. I also noticed the new Safari is using more than twice the memory on my Mac then it did before. I also think the redesign is ugly...the sidebar, the large corner radii. So far the only positive I have experienced is speed, I noticed the new Safari is faster at loading pages...reminds me of Chrome and Opera.

I've been using Safari for the past twenty two years. Since the first Tahoe Beta, I have been very unhappy with its sluggishness, not working on all sites, and its cantankerous behaviour. So, late last month I switched to Chrome and so far, I luv it 👍
