no, the 17" isn't going anywhere. There is a healthy market for it, and Apple is into making money.

So do I , but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

I mean, the 27" ACD is several times the resolution than the 11" MBA, but there are things that just can't be done on such a small screen. Likewise, you can't take the 27" into cramped bathrooms and crawl spaces. Doesn't make the other less/more adequate.
Lol. Why are you taking your computer to the bathroom?
I can't say that I would like this. The black bezel really makes the colors pop, and it's a nice design touch to go with the keyboard.17" rules!! I don't see why they would get rid of it! What they should do is edge to edge screen so a 17" would be the size of a old 15"!
I'd rather have a huge battery than an optical drive... I bet it could get about 15 hours. I wouldn't have to charge it everyday!Even Steve Jobs was known to use a 17" PowerBook to build his keynotes. I doubt they'd kill it...in fact it might be the only model to still sport an optical drive/expresscard slot in the next revision/redesign. i.e. the true pro laptop left standing.
If Apple redesigns the MBP chassis and the screen ratio goes to 16:9, then it's possible that the 17" would become 16.4", which is a standard size. The width of the present 16:10 17" screen is 14.45", and the width of a 16:9 16.4" screen is 14.27", so there isn't much difference. The screen height would be smaller, and the resolution might be 1920 x 1080, or 2560 x 1440 for really hi-res for a 1:1 relationship to the 27" iMac and ACD.
TO 17" MBP owners: How much do you use the computer on your lap?

The air is only going to get more powerful, and when Apple remove the OD from their MBPs...
Now that Apple has decided we are stupid and no longer need discrete graphics there's room for it to stay.
