@triangletechie: No display is perfect, even at these prices, the MPB display does have relatively high ghosting, but it's uniformity and backlight bleed is good for an LCD (in my experiecne) and the gamut/calibration is good as well. There are technically better displays but they are a lottery as well; OLED grey blotches (I have an OLED TV and it is great, but grey-scale is a permanent weakness you live with as a TV), backlight bleed (I have seen two Thinkad Extremes with the Dolby Vision displays that have backlight bleed), etc.

Is there a huge difference between the above scenario and my using a mid-2013 MBA to also run a 30" cinema display? Granted the cinema display is lower resolution than a 4k monitor, but I have very little issue with fan noise/cooling in my scenario. Seems odd to hear the 16" sweat the effort so much, unless I'm talking apples/grapes.

And, are these issues apparent with the 13" 2020 MBP?

l Just boxed up my refurb until I can take it to Apple but hurried and ordered another before the 26+ day Corona returns get into the supply.

Constantly dropped wifi and BT, popping noise from chassis, suspected bad usb c ports, fan noise, ghosting, and one kernel panic.

Have these issues all be resolved at this point? Which issues remain?
I'd say the popping has been resolved, but the issue with using an external monitor, nope. Ghosting, is still a problem, seems like kernel panics haven't been resolved (I could be wrong on this, I've not followed that issue very closely)

I’ve got a brand new (April build date) 16”. External monitor problem: not fixed. Kernel panics with sleep: not fixed. Ghosting: I can’t tell, but pretty much everything except gaming laptops have trouble with motion.

Tried replacing my HP G2 thunderbolt dock with an OWC Thunderbolt Pro dock, hoping that something more in the “Mac ecosystem” would be better. Nope: now my external monitor randomly disconnects during active use, which is a new level of terribleness.

After reading all these stories of the 16” I’m kind of glad I stuck with the 15” 2019 base model.

I almost feel like they perfected this design.

I don’t have any keyboard issues, nothing.

I haven’t really heard anyone having issues with the 2019 15”

If I recall maybe 1 guy on here said he has a keyboard issue, but I think this machine may be one of apples best.

at least I hope...

Time will tell. So far so good

I ended up going with the 2020 13” loaded with 10th Gen i7, 32GB RAM, and 2TB SSD.

I have not tested out with external monitor, but can confirm there’s no kernel panics, popping, or noticeable ghosting.

I think it’s quite likely Apple is aware of all of these issues - some will continue to be resolved via software, but it also may take a hardware refresh for the 16” later this year.

For me, it seems the 13” was a good choice, and I’m starting to explore eGPUs to get some top notch graphics performance when docked at home.

Kernel panic while doing nothing more intensive than working on RDP while hooked up to a dock in clamshell mode:

"panicString" : "panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffff0258cf7b4): x86 CPU CATERR detected\nDebugger message: panic\nMemory ID: 0x6\nOS version: 17P4281\nmacOS version: 19E287\nKernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 19.4.0: Mon Mar 2 20:38:56 PST 2020;

This is going back and we'll see what Apple has to offer this fall. Not going to risk refurb replacement hell on a $2,500 machine.
