Does the 6+ serve its theoretical purpose?
The 6 plus did initially appear to me a compromised device but since using it for a while I'm not sure it's that simple.
Why did I initially think it was compromised?
- the screen was too small for real productivity
- the phone was too large for real portability
- it felt awkward to hold due to the size
But then it made other compromises/trade offs stand out in other Apple devices:
- the smaller iPhones feel awesome to use and are pocketable but lack battery power in comparison (this is a compromise to those who require serious battery life)
- the iPads are great devices for consumption and productivity with their screens but aren't pocketable at all (unless you're talking about weird sized pockets)
So where does the 6 plus fit in?
- it provides battery life for real full day mobile use unlocking more of that potential (metal gaming, location services, etc)
- you can consume better on the go due to pocketability where otherwise you would've left the iPad at home or in a bag
So I think it's finding its own space. It definitely needs a lot more software support though. That's the next frontier...
