If not whats the best way for getting HD input both video and sound? I know if you convert hdmi to dvi, it will take the video but no audio.

Negative ghost rider.... no HDMI at all (in or out). That's a good question though... never thought of it before.

You will need to go through a third party for that. AJA, and Blackmagic Designs are the main companies for pro video cards.

My Canon XHA1 transfers HD to my mac through FireWire. :)

I guess you may not count HDV as HD or something if you mean I need something else?

ill just get a tv card with hd inputs. thanks for the replys. gosh im going crazy waiting for this mac pro.

I don't understand what the hdmi is for. My LCD has HDMI, are you just looking at plugging in a console or something?

I'm looking at connecting both tv and xbox 360 in HD.

Why are you asking about HDMI in the computer then? This is dependent on your LCD. My gateway fhd2400 has component and hdmi, so I can hook tv and consoles up to it.

Maybe he wants to capture from his console in HD?

I do the same with my XHA1.... great camera!

Same here! I also have the A1. :D Can´t wait for my Mac Pro to arrive, so I can finally fluently work with HDV.

That Blackmagic card is interesting. I wonder if you could capture from Blu-Ray players with it.

Yes, this is something I'm looking to do.

The NEC monitor I'm looking at only has DVI inputs, so thats not an option. THe fhd2400 was what i was originally going to get but decided against it after reading about bleeding. Do you get much of that?

You do know that you can capture uncompressed HD instead of HDV if you use an HDMI capture instead of firewire, right? If you are shooting in a studio setting, get the BlackMagic capture card and log directly onto your MacPro. Not only do you get uncompressed HD, but you also get to capture in a 4:2:2 color space. Mucho mejor! You will need a RAID though to handle the uncompressed stuff ...Just a thought.

I know the Acer monitor on Newegg has an HDMI input. But thats the monitor only.

The A1 doesn't have HDMI out... perhaps you were just referring to the Blu-Ray players.
