So far with my purple 14 pro I’ve tried the Apple clear case and a Tech21 Evo Clear.

The Apple one sure is slippery, I was wondering if it “wears” in with time? I saw some conflicting reports about it and wanted to see if anyone had any definitive experience.

The Tech21 is great to hold but the form factor of the Apple one looks beautiful

Yes it does get less slippery in time. I've used the Apple clear case for the 12PM, 13PM, and now the 14PM. It generally takes some time (for me about two weeks) for the case to "break in" so to speak. Probably because of a variety of factors like temperature conditions, hand oils, soaps, dirt/debrish, micro scratches, friction, etc. help to ever so slightly rough up the case over time.

I just put the clear case on my 14PM yesterday and it feels very slippery compared to the 13PM still in its year old clear case when I have both in my hands. They both look practically identical in general, not counting the scuffs and dings in some corners when I have dropped the 13 over the last year, but the difference in slickness is very apparent.

It's a very beautiful case for sure. It doesn't yellow at all and cleans up very easily. Some people find the open bottom of the case to be a problem but I never have.

Can you post a picture of them both?
I bought the clear case for my 12Pro. Absolutely detested the hard buttons and returned it. Don’t know how they are for the 14 pro

Thanks for the reply, really helpful info :)

Have you ended up getting many scratches along the bottom where the case is open, or much dust scratching the back of the phone with this case?

I had mine on my 12 pro for 2 years and I agree with the above post. It does seem to get less slippery over time. I also purchased one for my 14 pro and at first it seemed more slippery than the 12 pro had become. Never got any scratches on the phone where the open area was. I did however purchase and just receive this week the Caudabe lucid clear and like it better than the Apple case. Lucid Clear below.

I personally never found the buttons to be too hard or stiff to press. They feel the same on the 14PM as they do on the 13PM.

Here are some pictures of both phones in their cases side by side.

Very small amounts of dust and bits of debris do get in between the case and the phone and with the case being clear, you can see where they build up, typically around the top left and right corners because my phone goes in and out of my front pants pocket.

When there's enough buildup, usually after several months, I would pop the phone out of the case and wipe it down with a microfiber cloth, as well as wipe the inside of case. Everyone would have a different tolerance for how much dust and debris buildup they'd be willing to put up with visually, all I can say is since the case is clear, you're going to see everything.

As for scratching, there have been none at all caused by the case itself. Despite the open bottom of the case and being dropped a handful of times over the year, I've never had that area get any damage.

I have always purchased the Apple Leather Case since, but since I went Deep Purple this year, I ordered the Silicone Case.

My iPhone Pro Max just arrived so I popped it in and I was surprised at how slippery it felt. It kind of scares me a bit, to be honest, but glad to hear that it will become better over time.

I dislike the Clear case, i returned it because it was slippery, that’s why i will forever rock the leather case, i have more grip, even more so when your hands are wet or greasy!

Why do you like it better?

Mainly because of the darker charcoal MagSafe ring. Otherwise I like that it covers the bottom and I line the button cutouts. Other than that they are pretty similar.
I really do not like any case with the silly looking white Magsafe ring and markers on it. Distracts from the aesthetics of the case whoever makes it

So after a few days I find the Apple Clear Case to be less slippery. I expect it is more me subconsciously adjusting my grip strength to the coefficient of friction, but I no longer fear I will drop my phone. :)

I got the apple clear case on launch and I’ve just started to use it today (been using the umber leather).

It feels like a bar of soap and keeps slipping out of my hands. Will have to adjust my grip.

But the quality is amazing and it is crystal clear.

Seeing other pics above for the 13PM and there is no yellowing after a year!

Do you feel that the clear case holds up better over time than the leather/ silicone

Just picked this up, was using the ink leather , started to feel sticky … But I must say this years clear case fits amazingly.

I would say all the official Apple cases hold up to varying degrees. The clear is likely the most durable, simply by virtue of the material it's made from. It's essentially just a piece of solid clear plastic or whatever exactly the material is. It doesn't fade or discolor or change its appearance over time and use. Oils and liquids won't damage the clear case. It doesn't chip or flake off like the silicone case seems to be prone to over time. Short of dropping the clear case, which can cause small cracks or splinters, the case is pretty much going to look mostly the same as when you first bought it.

It is a problem to get the iPhone in and out of the case?

I like to switch cases quite often. Would this be a problem with the clear case?

It sits really tight and I managed to damage more than one clear cases by removing it from the phone. That being said I wasn't particularely careful so you may be okay if you're a bit more patient when removing and re-applying it. Mine used to develop small cracks at the corners of the bottom opening.

I'd say it's not too bad. Not as hard as the Pitaka case. Now that's a tough case to get off!

I know this is an old thread but my Apple clear MagSafe case is NOT getting less slippery on 14PM. It's bloody dangerous for me. The case looks great and I'm sure it will hold up well but I've ordered a Spigen case to replace my 2 month old Apple case. I had a Spigen on a 12PM but it was not MagSafe friendly. Apparently the new Spigen cases are so hopefully it will be as good as my last Spigen that was not slippery at all.

Thanks for this thread! I just got the Apple clear case yesterday for my pro max 14 and I can’t believe how slippery it is. I fear that with wet hands or even just normal hands that it will slip out of my hand. It also feels kind of bulky. I just ordered the amethyst Caudabe Sheath. Ill update when i receive!

Did you receive it?
