I'm going to have an iPhone battery replacement at an Apple retail store. It is for an iPhone 6s. Can they do it while you wait or do you have to leave it with them? If you need to leave it, is it like an hour or a few days?

I recently got mine replaced on my 6. If I remember correctly they said to give them an hour. I went to the gym and came back and picked it up 2 hours later.

I didn't even have a genius bar appointment.

Time will vary in my experience based on the time of day you drop it off. I've seen 30 minutes and I've seen comeback the next day.

Dropped my SO's 6 off at Apple Perimeter last December 18th, and we were able to have a quiet dinner while we waited. She effectively had a new phone waiting for her when we returned an hour-twenty later.

I believe it was ready before we returned...

It depends on how long you want to wait :)
I'm bringing mine in tomorrow and was told to expect a 2.5 hour wait. Luckily the store it near my work so I can go back later in the afternoon to pick it up.

I was also told that the iPhone 6s Plus is very delicate and often gets damaged during battery replacements so I might return to a brand new (or refurbished?) phone waiting for me. As long as the battery lasts more than half a day once it's fixed then I'll be happy.

Took a little over an hour for me, I went and got lunch while I waited.

Hour and a half at an authorized repair outlet. Went shopping. Like new i6 after. Booked ahead.

My 6 is on 10.3.3, Apple is having a battery sent to the Pasadena store, will they replace the battery without wanting to update the ios?

I have two 6s Pluses that I want to get the $29 batteries in November or so, also on 10.3.3, want to keep them like that also. Both of these the batteries show 87% & 91%.

My 7 Plus doesn't need a battery today showing 100%.

The system seems to be that after contacting apple support, they reserve a battery for you at the store of your choice, and notify when it's ready. At that point you just go to the store. I was quoted an hour one night, and 2 hours the other (2x iphone 6).
