I see and hear anecdotal assumptions that the bigger (regular 46mm) Apple Watch gets better battery life that the smaller (42mm) watch.

Is there any actual evidence behind this? Apple rates them both at 18 hours. Does anyone have experience comparing the two on recent watch models.

In the early days the larger models all appeared to have better battery life, I’m sure there is a post from the past if you search or a review on YouTube.

I don't know that you'd find anything definitive. While the battery is smaller (9% for S9 according to ifixit repair pics showing 1.09Wh vs 1.19Wh batteries), the screen is also smaller with 19% fewer pixels to drive (S10 is 374x446 vs 416x496).

How much does one offset the other is likely to vary by individual usage

I currently have a S7 SS and S9 SS and I have always gotten far more time on the battery with my S9, even comparing when my 7 was new. My 9 was just better over all. Looking forward to getting the 10 and as long as it is as good and lasts as long as my 9 still does I am happy.
