Does the black plastic squeak on your iPhone?

This is kind of silly, but I was wondering if the black plastic section on the back bottom of your iPhone squeaks or clicks when you lightly squeeze the sides.

I found this to be the case on my 8GB iPhone, but not my wife's 8GB (hers feels solid). I exchanged mine at the Apple store for a brand new one, but found this one "gives" a little on the sides as well. I showed the employees that the ones on display in the store don't do that (the plastic is firm), and they claimed it's because the display models are 4GB versions.

I know it's a little anal of me, but my feeling is, a $600 piece of advanced technology should feel consistently solid. I'm very curious to hear other people's thoughts.

totally annoying - my 4gb does not but i can understand your frustration.

BTW - this is plastic because the antenna is located there and metal would block a little signal.

My first iPhone was solid there, but i just returned it today because of a blue line on the screen that wouldn't go away. The new one gives on the right side of the home button, but not on the left. It doesn't move much, but it does make a clicking sound. My wife's doesn't do it, and neither does her sisters. I'm so pissed because I just got done returning one (over an hour from home) and I don't want to have to take this one back. I think I'll see if someone has found a DIY fix for it. I don't think it'll ever be a problem with the phone, just more of an annoyance.

I've got the same problem. a slight give and sort of a tupperware squeaking sound. I just figured it was from dropping it 3 feet onto an asphalt parking lot. I'm gonna force myself to be a man about it and not care. Just like I'm doing with the nicks and scratches it suffered on the right side corners.

can i ask how you, and others, went about returning your iphones:
    1. is apple strict on which ones they take back?? i know that there is no restocking fee and i am still within the 14 day period...
    2. how closely do they inspect the iphone when taking in a return?
    3. when you got your new one, how did the activation process work since i am assuming you all wanted to keep the same number and account, etc. did the itunes setup recognize that you were already an iphone user or did it start from scratch?

    thanks in advance...

I had to bitch about returning mine without a genius bar appointment. After that, it was easy to return. They didn't look the phone over very well, just the defective screen. They didn't look at any of the other stuff in the box either. After they swiched out the sim card I just had to take it home and reactivate it with iTunes.

I just got done returning a phone because of some dead pixels and my new one has loose plastic on one side as well. I'm considering just leaving it because I feel silly returning a phone for such a small reason, but man, this is annoying.

Almost seems like it just wasn't assembled right or maybe there's a snap inside that can still be snapped if we push on it.
