Is it allowed to have profiles pictures of 20th century political leaders who have killed millions of people, such as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao? I ask, because I reported a user who had a profile picture of Mao, yet my report was rejected.

Although, I'm not convinced that my report went through properly: The message I received said that "The moderator team has reviewed the post in question and concluded that no moderation action was warranted". But the post itself was never the problem, only the profile picture! So, again, is it allowed to have a profile picture of (for example) Hitler or Stalin?

If it is allowed: It really shouldn't be, if you ask me!

I found this. Rules are usually very generic left open to interpretation. From my experience something that might be OK with one moderator might not be OK with another. An official answer would be interesting though.

Yes, pictures of political leaders are allowed in certain cases, including the case you reported, with an avatar using Mao's image as a joke. Political references are usually allowed in forum signatures, sometimes allowed in avatars, and never allowed in posts outside of the Political News forum.

The message you received, referring to "the post," is built into the report-handling system, so it's used even when the issue is not about a single post.
