"The iPad mini display stands out in all the right ways. It has the same 1024-by-768 resolution as iPad 2 — in a size that’s significantly smaller. So everything looks incredibly crisp and sharp"

from the website.
I was right, so its slighty Retina-ish

lol at slightly retina-ish.. it will look like a low res screen. just visiting the apple store and looking at iPod Nano made me realize just how much i despise low-res screens and reading on them.. i wouldn't buy mini to read on, it's too bad.. =/

I'm a bit confused here. I realize it has no retina, and the same resolution as the original iPhone and iPad. But I read online somewhere during my live-blog following and subsequent web-searching afterwards that the screen should "look" better than the specs would otherwise seem to indicate. How can this possibly be the case?

*edit* Korican - that's exactly the type of statement I read somewhere that I am referring to with my post. I don't understand how the size could make it look clearer?

i believe the pixels are smaller on the ipad mini, so there is more detail in one square inch, making it slightly more retina-ish! Can't wait to get it

I didn't catch it. But I'm thinking it doesn't since it was comparing it to the iPad2, not the "new" ipad.

Or Does it mean it HAS the retina display, but its the same resolution of the ipad 2?

Can someone explain?

nope no retina, they are going to milk us suckers lol, wait for ipad mini 2, retina will be there, its only a year away.

Don't listen to mumbo-jumbo oh we dont know when apple will released new products. just follow the pattern, as they've been doing for years. well.... they pull a fast one with the 4th gen ipad... sneaky ipad 3 gen only been out for 6 months. but i guess they wanted all there ios line up to have lighting....

nonsense.

it has the same ppi as the iphone 3GS and ipod touch 3G - 163.

and those devices have a smaller screen yet and it looks horrible by todays standards.

SAME DPI AS THE ORIGINAL iPHONE!

I love how when the Retina displays came out everyone said reading was impossible on the old screens now. Now Apple is releasing a Tablet to compete against Tablet eReaders and it has the same old DPI as the Original iPhone. Now 163 DPI is Slightly Retina. lol

No retina?

I, too, was stunned when they kept comparing it to the iPad2. At this point that's old technology. After hyping the retina display on the MacBook, iPad 3/4 and iPhone5, to not have it on the iPad Mini is a huge mistake in my opinion. I was seriously thinking of getting one until it became apparent that it lacked that key feature. I'll wait, because, as has been stated in pervious posts, iPad Mini 2 will not doubt have it. Next year. I can wait. But those new iMac's look pretty cool! LOL Ah, it never ends. :apple:

No but I bet in 3-4 months they will introduce the iPad mini Retina!:p

A year? LOL

How about Spring!

hmm im not sure yet.

But I dont care about that anyway, the iPad mini is a great device, you can tell by the response from the tablet consumers!

Buying a device based on other perspectives? Oh boy...
Slightly retina? Double oh boy.

ok then what do you have to say about this!

"The display on the mini looks incredibly sharp, and even though the resolution is lower than the 3rd and 4th generation full-size iPad, it doesn't immediately seem like a 1024 x 768 display. The smaller, 7.9-inch surface area certainly helps squeeze the pixels." The Verge

BOOM whatsup now?

Well, i guess good for you that you're happy. I think even the Kindle Fire of 2011 had a higher resolution screen than the iPad mini, and people complained plenty about that.

I think I'll have to see it in person. I bet the display looks fine in person.

So by your reasoning, the nexus 7 is more retina-ish than the ipad mini
