Makes me worried about buying it.

Yes, my iPad Pro keyboard did not lie flat. I exchanged it for one that did. It was easy for me, because I live near an Apple Store. If you can, test it in the store before you take it home.

Ok thanks.

How am i suppose to do that? Bring my iPad Pro with me?

I know how it sounds... But yes. If you can.

Ok thanks. I may just ask them to use a demo unit to try it on. I don't want my iPad Pro stolen or accused of stealing one.

You're worried about bringing your iPad into the store? People bring their devices in all the time. Trust me, they know the difference between their stock and what people carry in.

How in the world could anyone accuse you of stealing an iPad if your passcode, your fingerprint and your iTunes account is bound to it?

My 10.5 did not lay flat (the end was about 1cm above the desk/whatever it was on) my 12.9 lays flat

So all 40+ customers walking around an Apple store using their own iPhones stole them from the demo display or broke into the back? Come on. This is ridiculous.

Do you know the age of the person who made that comment? Maybe they're some 13 yr old kid who is not aware of how things work... maybe someone with special needs. I'm curious, what is gained by ridiculing another member of this forum?

I have used two copies of the 10.5 Smart Keyboard.

  1. Bought from the Apple Store for a trip where I didn’t want to take my MacBook Pro. It lay perfectly flat on every surface that I used it on: a dining table at an airport, a tray table on an airplane, a tray table on a long-distance Amtrak train, and my desks at work and home. I ended up returning it after my trip because I was eligible to buy a discounted one from Target (employee discount + RED Card).
  2. Bought from Target. After two weeks of light usage, it has never lay flat. The keyboard part has a slight arc in the middle, leaving a gap between the middle part of the keyboard and my desk. Sometimes, the bottom-right corner with the arrow keys is also raised more than the bottom-left side with the globe-control-option keys.
The only thing different between the two is that I first used the second one in the Watch position, not the Type position. I didn’t even know that there was a Watch position, which should teach me to RTFM.

Could it be that using the iPad in the Watch position before using it in the Type position would cause the keyboard to warp and not lie flat?

Otherwise, there might be an issue with a defective lot. Apple should address it if that’s the case.

So, my keyboard is not laying totally flat. It’s not a deal breaker, but what’s the consensus, will this start laying flat over time, or does this never lay flat??
