Hello guys.

Got a little concerned about a rattling sond that occures when I tap my iPhone 6 on the back or on the top part of the screen. It seems to come from the camera.
Is this some part of the camera optics which makes all iphone 6 rattle?
Or is there some defect? It does not rattle when I shake the phone.

It doesn't give much of a sense of quality when you hear the rattling sounds..

So i thought i'd hear with you guys. Does your iPhone 6 rattle when you tap on it?

every single iPhone that I've ever touched in my life has done this.

I was just like you -- I was a novice at the time and I even called apple and they told me it wasn't normal and I should send my phone back (which I did) and they sent me one with -- shocker -- the same rattle.

Now, every single one I've had since then (and I get a new one every year and usually several replacements for various things that happen) has done it to a varying degree.

A non-issue.

The focusing mechanism in the iPhone camera uses a voice coil mechanism. This is basically a coil suspended in a magnetic field. You put varying electricity through the coil to move the lens to a specific position.

When the camera is unpowered, the lens is free to move in its path, as the coil isn't energized, holding it in place. This causes the rattle. It's perfectly okay, and isn't getting damaged as the lens is simply moving along the path it's designed to move in.

Almost every phone will rattle ever so slightly if you tap it by the camera area, it's the autofocus lens and coil that has to have a littttle tiny playing room for it to move and focus (obviously lol)

But some phones exhibit it more then others, some of the previous iPhone's that I have had have had less or more of a rattle kind of sound but it doesn't bother me really, it's pretty minor and I know it is the camera autofocus that rattles, it needs too.

Agree...the rattle seems normal. I will say it's far less noticeable on the 6+'s though. (This is not a "6+ is better than 6" thing at all...just reporting my first hand observations).

My iPhone have the same "problem". I tried in 3 new iPhones 6 and they all make the rattle near the camera.

If I have the iPhone in my desk and I move it to my ear, I can notice the rattle.

When I shake the phone, in silence, the rattle noise is also noticeable.

Normal Not a defect. All small phone cameras with adjustable focus do this.

A few weeks ago discussing this very topic a friend told me his phone didn't. Showed him his phone did in fact do it. Not an iPhone btw.

HI, I believe all of you, but why is it when i call Apple, they have no clue as to what this rattling is tell me to take it in. I would think of all people they would have a clue (no disrespect to apple)

I couldn't hear anything rattle with my iPhone 6+ so is it a defective? :apple:

I've read the 6+ doesn't rattle as much or none at all, not sure why it's only the 6 but the whole WWW seems to think the rattling is fine, BUT when I call apple they are completely clueless and tell me to make a genius apt.....

something makes no sense here

My 4S did it, my 5S does it, my Z1c does it, Galaxys do it, HTCs do it, and other phones that use the same camera modules do it. Those Apple geniuses aren't really geniuses, but people trained to follow Apple's troubleshooting scripts and procedures. Never mind the folks that man the phones. Come to think of it, it all makes perfect sense :)

My first iPhone, a 4s, had a rattle and I thought the same thing at first. After researching it and a trip to the Apple Store I found its completely normal. My 6 does it as does my wife's 5s. I've used Android phones and they do it as well. While it might be more pronounced on specific phones, it's completely normal.

All my phones have rattled when tapped behind near the camera.
Iphone 6, Note 4, LG G3, Note 3, S4, HTC one m7, Lumia 920, Iphone 4/4S, I forget what others.

I've handled or serviced quite a few more phones than this.

To be honest, while I used to had a distinctive rattling sound from both my iPhone 5 and 5S (both worked flawlessly, and still working today), I can't hear the same sound on my iPhone 6.

Was that not the power button? I had the rattling on both the 5 and 5S

Yeah, when I first heard the rattle ages ago with one of the earlier iPhone models I was concerned. But now I know it is normal, otherwise I would have been obsessively shaking it all the time to see if it miracualously fixed itself.
