So today I got my Iphone swapped at the applestore due to battery issues. The thing that worries me is that I don't believe the rep reset the old one. Due to privacy issues, with my numerous contacts and email accounts stored on it, I'm afraid that if it gets into the wrong hands, there might be an "identity-theft" not to mention SPAM issue. So my question is, when I swap the sim cards out, will the Iphone auto-delete it's content to protect the user, in this particular case, me.

Before giving back the phone, you should have done a reset and erase all data on the iPhone... If I were you I would go back right now and do it!

To answer your question: No removing the sim does not delete the data
Putting in a new sim in the phone deos not delete the current data

The only thing removing the sim does is turn off the ATT network access. The email and other features can still be used via WiFi.

Though that would be a useful idea, there is no auto-delete. Nothing really is saved on your SIM and once it's removed, all your data remains on the phone. I agree with the previous poster, go back to the store ASAP and get it wiped.
